Despite having grown up on one side of the great rivalry that is Ohio State/Michigan, I have always had tremendous respect for the Wolverine program and a special appreciation for their greatest team of my lifetime. Having covered and studied the Wolverines in 1997, I know and have a vivid recollection of the talent on that team and how they performed that season. 'Mountaintop' engaged me from the beginning and brought me into stories I never knew. I know college football fans can relate to a magical season and this book brings you inside the locker room.
This is a rare look at Michigan's 1997 National Championship team as told by the players, coaches and insiders. Big picture, regardless of all the recent changes in college athletics, this story remains a blueprint for championship teams. Great read.
Michigan fans, and all college football fans, will love this behind-the-scenes saga of a unique football season, and the Lloyd Carr-led team that made history. Insightful and fast-paced, this book builds to a crescendo like a championship year. A perfect chronicle to a perfect season.
Few squads in my life were as special or as meaningful to me than the 1997 Michigan Wolverine National Champion football team. 'Mountaintop' not only brings us back into the middle of that thrill ride from every tightrope walk to every ovation but it also offers the perfect cement for Lloyd Carr’s legacy in Michigan history. This is a must read for every Wolverine fan everywhere. And we are everywhere.
As a Michigan alum, I loved that 1997 National-championship-winning team and all the memories it created. As a reporter, I love great stories. Mountaintop blends a great team with great stories, beautifully.
